An elderly woman from Huddersfield had a lucky escape after a therapeutic wheat bag set fire to her bed. The pensioner, believed to be in her 80′s, managed to get out of bed after noticing the bag had overheated and began to set her bed ablaze.

She put the bag in some water whilst waiting for the fire service to arrive. The Brighouse and Elland firefighters attended the incident and carried the mattress and bedding outside.

The woman was unhurt. Wheat bags can be warmed in a microwave to provide relief for aches and pains.
